DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY-ENRICHED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ENABLE ALL STUDENTS TO PURSUE THEIR INDIVIDUAL CURIOSITIES AND BECOME ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN SETTING THEIR OWN EDUCATIONAL GOALS, MANAGING THEIR OWN LEARNING, AND ASSESSING THEIR OWN PROGRESS. |
PROJECT SUMMARY
I designed my Composition I course to effectively use technology to help students actively pursue their goals. The online introductory tutorial is interactive and asks students about their goals. A variety of technology is available to help them reach their course goals: Discussions, Peer Review Groups, and regular feedback and interaction are a few expected items in the course. Some of the less-common items include, image and video tutorials, videos of interviews from the library director and other personnel as guest speakers, options to receive information by text message, and links to Creative Commons content. Other available technology has included ToonDoo, ScoopIt, Dropbox, and Google Docs. I look forward to experimenting with Voicethread for future assignments. I also hold an online office hour every other Saturday morning through Google Hangouts. It has been a very effective method of meeting individually with students to discuss past work.
PROJECT SUMMARY
While exploring new technology in the MSEd program, I was introduced to Hnypothis.is. The tool is an interesting resource for engaging students in mediated conversations outside of the “classroom.” To help guide students in academic research, I developed writing assignment that encouraged them to discuss the sources that they found with their peers. The assignment worked well for the course, and students began to differentiate between credible sources and those which should not be used in research.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Developed an interactive tutorial to help students revise their texts. The tutorial asks critical questions and directs students to think critically about their work.
