ENGAGE STUDENTS IN EXPLORING REAL-WORLD ISSUES AND SOLVING AUTHENTIC PROBLEMS USING DIGITAL TOOLS AND RESOURCES.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Worked closely with recycling managers throughout Oregon to develop an 8 module Recycling 101 Canvas course used to reduce waste in Oregon. Designed the course to engage students in becoming part of the solution. Important aspects in the course also included formative assessment and interactives to engage the students, meaningful visual design, and summative assessment which results in a badge for students.

PROJECT SUMMARY

I developed and chaired a committee to plan a week of events to help reduce graduate unemployment rates and to guide students to build career competencies and discover job and internship opportunities. From using virtual interview software to taking computer-based interest inventories, technology was a central theme of the week. Students learned how to manage  their online presence through a Picture and Profile event. Each student participating in the activity received professional profile picture, was assisted with learning the basics of online networking, and set up a LinkedIn profile.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Designed a real-world writing assignment in collaboration with the Baxter Bulletin Newspaper. Students participated virtually or in-person in a writing workshop to refine texts about local events that they had previously written.  After the event, students had the choice to submit their article to the Baxter Bulletin for critical review. One student was published, and other students used the opportunity to discuss community issues and investigate solutions.
